Abstract:For cross-regional asynchronous-tied grid of voltage source converter based high voltage direct
current(VSC-HVDC)transmission system,a frequency support control strategy for energy storage devices based
on 5G communication was proposed. Firstly, the frequency-voltage droop control and frequency restoration control
strategies were designed for the sending-end and receiving-end VSCs respectively,so that the VSC-HVDC could
reflect the grid frequency fluctuations on one side to the other side. Then,a power synchronization control strategy
was designed for the VSC at the energy storage interface of 5G base station, enabling it to adaptively adjust output
power based on AC frequency. Furthermore,a cross-regional frequency support logic for energy storage devices
based on 5G communication was proposed. This logic selected the control mode of the VSC-HVDC based on the
degree of frequency deviation in the sending-end power grid. At the same time, based on the remaining state of
charge of the energy storage devices at the 5G base station, the energy storage devices with corresponding
frequency regulation capabilities were activated to participate in cross-regional frequency support. The simulation
results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy in enabling energy storage to participate in crossregional frequency support and improving the frequency stability of the power grid.
