Abstract:Grid-forming converter(GFC)can provide voltage and frequency support for the power grid,
effectively improving the stability of power electronic power systems,but there is a risk of transient instability
under large disturbances. By studying the key factors affecting the transient stability of GFC and conducting
quantitative analysis,the transient instability mechanism of GFC was revealed,and the critical amplitude value for
GFC to maintain voltage stability during the transient period was derived. On this basis,a method of adaptive
virtual resistance to adjust the voltage amplitude and improve the transient stability of GFC was proposed. The
phase diagram curve analysis fully revealed that the proposed method can improve the transient stability of GFC.
Finally,the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method were verified through simulation and
experiments.
